The Nomenclature System

The S-List of the Standard Nomenclature System
During WWII the Ordnance Department divided the SNL up into different 'blocks.'  The S block was for pyrotechnics.

SNL S Number Item
S-1 Bombs, aircraft, all types
S-2 Fuzes and miscellaneous explosive components for aircraft bombs
S-4 Grenades, hand and rifle, and fuzing components
S-5 Pyrotechnics, military, all types
S-6 Ammunition instruction material for grenades, pyrotechnics, and aircraft bombs
