The Nomenclature System

The C-List of the Standard Nomenclature System
During WWII the Ordnance Department divided the SNL up into different 'blocks.'  I am guessing the C block was for Artillery.

SNLC Number Item
C-18 Tools, Maintenance, for repair of pack, light and medium field artillery; and armament of these calibers for airplane and combat vehicles
C-36 Gun, 57-mm., M1 on Carriage, M1A2
