This tag was adopted in 1910 and although widely issued during WWI and beyond, very little information can be found about it's debut. The only source found to this date is a 1919 Ordnance Storage Catalog that shows Drawing No. 20 5 3, dated 15 FEB 1911. This drawing gives the specifications for the Model of 1910 Identification Tag.
Specification No. 1178 from 2 NOV 1917 gives the dimensions for
the M1917A tag (which is the same as the M1910):
"An aluminum disc No.
14 Gauge one and five-sixteenth inches in diameter, having a one-eight inch
hole three-sixteenths inch from the edge of the disc."
